Primary Sense, developed by the WA Primary Health Alliance (WAPHA), is a comprehensive GP decision-support and data extraction tool designed to improve clinical insights and operational efficiency. As the platform continues to evolve, it is essential to validate a wide range of use cases under realistic conditions to ensure reliability and scalability.
To achieve this, the development team has prioritised the use of synthetic data. This approach enables rigorous load testing at current and projected future capacities without exposing real, de-identified patient information, thereby maintaining strict privacy and compliance standards. Synthetic data provides a safe and controlled environment for performance testing, stress analysis, and functional validation.
Beyond supporting application development, synthetic data offers significant downstream benefits. WAPHA’s new data warehouse can leverage these datasets to simulate population health reporting scenarios, enabling advanced analytics and proof-of-concept testing for future enhancements. This capability ensures that both the application and its supporting infrastructure are prepared to meet growing demands while safeguarding patient confidentiality.
Project Objectives
This project aims to generate a usable synthetic dataset to support application development and reporting use cases. The project will follow the guidelines of the DHCRC’s Synthetic Health Data Governance Framework (SHDGF), applying its five-step process from use case assessment and data preparation to synthesis, evaluation, and approval, ensuring all outputs are privacy-preserving, high quality, and ethically compliant. An independent third party will assess both the implementation of the framework and the quality of the resulting synthetic dataset and produce a written report.
