Improving Patient Care and Flow Management Using an Integrated Digital Platform – an Independent Benefit Analysis

Opportunity 

Health services are under increasing pressure to improve patient flow while maintaining quality care and operational efficiency. The Northern Adelaide Local Health Network (NALHN) implemented Alcidion’s Miya Precision platform to provide staff with timely access to information needed to optimise the match between patients’ needs and available inpatient beds and improve patient flow throughout hospital. 

The project provided an opportunity to independently evaluate whether integrated digital workflow tools such as an electronic patient journey board could improve patient care coordination and hospital performance. 

Project Objectives  

This project aimed to deliver on the following: 

• Identify benefits and the impact on patient-related outcomes of implementing Miya Precision tools with quantitative and qualitative before and after analysis. 
• Demonstrate the role of an advanced integrated digital patient flow platform in supporting process change. 
• Contribute robust evidence on the benefits of implementing integrated digital patient flow solutions for more effective decision support, which can then be shared to the wider health services research community and support adoption of digital health solutions across the Australian health sector.
