PhD scholarship top-up for Fahmida Rahman: The economic costs and impacts on health systems of residential fires in New South Wales
Project Participants
Status: Ongoing
Opportunity
This project aims to estimate the total economic costs of residential fire from a societal perspective by quantifying the costs borne by different stakeholders and the direct and indirect impacts on them. This includes fire response agencies, ambulances, hospitals, businesses, and individuals. The study will use the project’s linked nine administrative datasets of fire incidents, ambulance, hospital, outpatient, and deaths at the NSW population level over a 10-year period.
From this research, the project will then develop a number of digital platforms to translate the research findings to enable end users to change their behaviour, attitudes, and decision making.
Project Objective
The aims and objectives of the project are to:
- Systematically review the global total economic cost associated with residential fires and fire related injuries and deaths.
- Assess the total societal and economic cost associated with residential fires and fire related injuries and deaths.
- Evaluate how associated risk factors and risk mitigation measures contribute to the economic cost model.
