DHCRC localisation of OECD AI Classification Framework to support governance of investment and commercialisation of AI systems amongst Australian SMEs
Project Participants
Status: Ongoing
Opportunity
This project will develop an online tool to help classify different types of Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions used in Australian healthcare. The online tool will adapt the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) AI Classification Framework to the Australian context, reflecting recent government policies, including proposed mandatory guardrails for AI across the Australian economy. The tool complements efforts by governments, peak organisations, and clinical professional and safety bodies to ensure AI is deployed safely into healthcare settings.
This project will deliver a self-serve advisory and benchmarking tool for AI developers, users, and policy makers, specifically tailored for the Australian healthcare sector.
Project Objectives
The aim of this project is to develop an easy to use and intuitive web-based tool that implements the OECD AI Classification Framework in support of responsible stewardship of trustworthy AI in Australian healthcare.
- Validate the applicability of the five Dimensions and Criteria in the OECD Classification Framework to the Australian healthcare sector.
- Develop granular business logic to support a nuanced approach to defining risk associated with bias, explainability, and robustness at the various stages of the AI system lifecycle so the tool can be used for both one-off classification and for benchmarking maturity and type of AI system.
- Assess the value of identifying and characterizing AI systems using the DHCRC-adapted OECD AI Classification Framework for stakeholders.
- Explore the potential for use of the web-based tool by other OECD member states.
