Opportunity
This project seeks to develop a foundation model by leveraging the potential of oculomics and deep learning, to achieve a noninvasive, rapid, and cost-effective solution. The model will be designed primarily as a risk prediction tool for systemic diseases such as cardiovascular disease (CVD) and chronic kidney disease (CKD).
The project has the opportunity to:
- Data Collection & Linkage: Integrate ocular imaging data with national health databases to create a comprehensive multimodal dataset.
- Foundation Model Development: Develop a foundation model of oculomics using this dataset to detect systemic diseases.
- Longitudinal Data Collection: Collect longitudinal data to monitor health changes over time.
- Disease Model Development: Use clinical data to refine the model for predicting future CVD and CKD.
- Clinical Validation: Validate the models across diverse populations using longitudinal external data to ensure accuracy and adaptability invarioushealthcare settings.
- Translation: Develop a translation strategy for real-world care improvement.
Impact:
The project promises to revolutionise systemic disease screening by providing a highly accurate, non-invasive, and accessible diagnostic tool of oculomics. This innovation will enhance early detection and treatment of diseases like CVD and CKD, improving patient outcomes and reducing healthcare costs across communities
Project Objectives
- Develop a Multi-modal Foundation Model of Oculomics
- Individualised Detection, Onset Risk, and Progression Risk Prediction for CVD and CKD
