Overview

The Australian Medivate Data Challenge (AMDC) is a four-day nation-wide competition hosted during the university winter break (1st – 4th July 2024) where participants, in groups of 4-5, will address real world healthcare challenges!

Each team will develop a solution to one of the provided problem statements and pitch their idea to a panel of judges. There will be one round of local judging on the 4th of July morning, and a round of grand finals on the 4th of July evening.

Participants will engage in complex challenges and problem solving, using a specially curated resource library under the professional guidance of our mentors.

Datasets

For the Australian Medivate Data Challenge 2024, participants will use the data documentation of two complex and large data sets, MIMIC-IV and All of Us, to address the one of the presented challenges.

MIMIC-IV

MIMIC-IV, or the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Cart, is a de-identified database that provides critical care data from a large tertiary hospital in Boston.

MIMIC-IV has been integral in driving large amounts of research in clinical informatics, epidemiology, and machine learning.

All of Us

The All of Us Program led by the United States’ National Institute of Health is building one of the largest biomedical data resources of its kind. The program’s research hub seeks to create a diverse database that reflects the US’ population.

Challenge themes

Using these resources, teams will have the opportunity to tackle their choice of one of the following challenge themes:

  • Clinical Decision Support Theme
  • Resource Optimisation Theme
  • Consumer and Equity Theme

Event partners

The event is the result of collaboration between the Digital Health CRC, University of Sydney, Beamtree and The Sydney University Society of Medical Innovation (SUSMI).
