Opportunity

Implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies in health care services is challenging with an absence of best-practice guidance, resulting in unclear policy. This presents an urgent need to bring together stakeholders who have a vested interest in the opportunities represented by AI-enabled healthcare services, to establish a coherent, collaborative, and sustainable national approach supporting the implementation of AI in the Australian health system. Specifically, there is lack of guidance on the policy and practice strategies that are needed to see AI safely implemented in working health services.

Objectives

Led by the Australian Alliance for Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare (AAAiH), this project brings together all AI in healthcare key stakeholders nationally, to understand the nature of the AI implementation challenge from these wider perspectives, and to characterise the best approach for safe and effective implementation.

The project will establish a nationally coordinated approach to AI implementation in healthcare by:

  • Understanding implementation barriers and opportunities
  • Engaging healthcare, policy, research and industry stakeholders
  • Building consensus on best-practice implementation strategies
  • Producing an updated National Policy Roadmap for AI in Healthcare
  • Translating the Roadmap through broad engagement and dissemination activities.
