Project Participants

Status: Completed

Opportunity

Conduct a deep investigation into the ethical and legal ramifications of using general practice data for health research purposes.

Project objective

This project will identify the legal and policy issues around accessing general practice data for research. In particular, the research team will examine the right balance between protecting a patient’s privacy and allowing researchers to access this valuable data pool.

The team will also look at public sentiment on researchers having access to their personal health data.

The outcome of the work will be a report entitled, ‘Ethics, Legal and Social Implications of the Use of General Practice Data in Research’ which will include suggestions on law and policy reform, potential regulatory changes, and future areas of research.
